Spring 2024 Syllabus Live

I am looking forward to meeting the class this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 in Wiggins Room 122. Please consider arriving at least five minutes ahead of the start time.

All equipment and materials are provided, but if you have your own film camera, you may bring it to our first class meeting.

I think it may be useful to read through the About and Schedule pages before coming to class.

Fall 2022 Syllabus Live

I am looking forward to meeting the class this Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in Wiggins Room 111. Locate the room before it starts and consider arriving at least five minutes ahead of the start time.

All equipment and materials are provided, but if you have your own film camera, please bring it to our first class meeting.

It may be useful to read through the About and Schedule pages before coming to class.

I hope you are as excited as I am to be working in our wonderful facilities and that you will be joining that special sub-group known as the Sewanee Photons. (Why do Sewanee Photons board planes not only without checked but also without carry-on bags?)

Syllabus live for Spring 2021

The syllabus, class meeting groups, and other information is now live for the Spring semester. Please take a look at the schedule above, and make special note of your particular meeting group.

I am excited about a complete redesign of the syllabus. Material that I would normally demonstrate in class has been recorded and will be available as video, handouts, and readings. Similarly, lectures and slide viewings are online. These references and descriptions of assignments are reviewed and discussed briefly in class. The bulk of in-person teaching will be given over to substantive discussions about assigned work.

It is also a bit of a landmark semester: the new digital and wet lab photographic facilities in Wiggins Art Building are fully functional, and this is the first semester that two classes will use the space as such.

I look forward to working with you!

Starting Spring 2018

Information about a completely new course syllabus and schedule is now being posted on this site. The class is about understanding the difference between seeing and looking, and how processes shape expression with particular attention to the print-out method of platinum-palladium printing.

Subscribe to the blog, even if you are not enrolled in the class.

Students will be posting to this site throughout the semester.
