ART 261 Grading Rubric and Guide

All final prints are graded, as submitted for each of the three projects.

All projects must be completed on time in order to receive any grade above D+.

Two other aspects of the class are graded:
1. Class participation/presence: your engagement within the subgroup and in discussions, presence in and usage of the photo labs, and attendance — worth two “print” grade points.
2. Notebook: maintaining class notes, summaries of readings, references to other photographic works, reflections on assigned work, and evidence of engagement with the subject matter — worth two “print” grade points.

Each gradable component will be marked with one of the following:

A = excellent
+ = good
O = satisfactory
= needs attention (this is not to be confused with the hyphen “-” which denotes “no grade entered” in Brightspace)
x = inadequate or not submitted

The final grade will be determined by the schema below. For example:
if a student tallies up twenty-one ‘A’ marks and has submitted all assignments by the last day of classes, then they receive an ‘A+’ for the final grade;
or if a student has not completed all assignments (thereby receiving an “X” for each incomplete assignment), and received at least eighteen “” s by our last class meeting, then they receive a final grade of D+

Final grade

D-          At least 6 “” and not completed all assignments

Deadlines and Final Exam
All assigned work receives verbal feedback if submitted by the deadline indicated in the schedule. The last class and final exam will be used for a detailed discussion and review of the final project. Attendance for both of these classes is mandatory. The class notebook is to be submitted at the end of the exam.
